The piece
The hound that broke into two Suffolk churches on the morning of 4 August 1577, caught in the moment he crosses the threshold of the north door at Blythburgh. His hackles are up, his head is low and his eyes are fixed on whoever is foolish enough to be looking back.
He stands on a plinth scored with the scorch marks the villagers still call the devil's fingerprints, made to sit on a mantel, a bookshelf or a desk, where he can keep an eye on things.
