The first collection

The Beasts of East Anglia

Six old terrors of the fens, the heaths and the drowned coast.

East Anglia is flat, wet and very old. Its fens swallow light, its coast swallows whole towns, and its churches still carry the marks of the things that came calling. These are six of its beasts, taken from the chronicles, the parish records and the stories told after dark, and made into something you can hold.

Bungay & Blythburgh, Suffolk4 August 1577

Black Shuck

The Devil Dog of the Eastern Coast

This black dog, or the divel in such a likenesse... runing all along down the body of the church with great swiftnesse, and incredible haste, among the people, in a visible fourm and shape...

Abraham Fleming, A Straunge and Terrible Wunder, 1577

Twice in one stormy morning a black hound tore through a Suffolk church. At Bungay two worshippers died where they knelt. At Blythburgh he scorched the north door on his way out, and the marks are still there. We have made him twice over: once as a display piece, once in brass.

The making

Two crafts, one old dark.

Every creature in the workshop is made one of two ways: built up out of nothing, layer by layer, or burned into brass, oak and stone.

3D Printed

Printed in the dark

Each display piece begins as a digital sculpture drawn from the old accounts and woodcuts. It is printed in fine layers, then finished so it can sit on a shelf and quietly unsettle your guests for years.

Laser Etched

Burned into brass

Our coins are deep engraved: the laser cuts each design into solid brass, pass after pass, until the beast sits well below the surface. Oak and slate are etched the same way, with light instead of a blade.

Ordering

How an order works.

Every order starts as a request, so you never pay for anything until we have confirmed it with you.

  1. Fill your basket

Choose the beasts you want to keep. Each piece lists its size, finish and how long it takes to make.

  2. Send an order request

Tell us who you are and where it should go. Nothing is charged at this stage.

  3. We confirm by email

We write back to confirm the total, delivery and how to pay. Then the work begins.
